The Armenian cross is a symbol of triumph. That’s why it doesn’t have corpus (figure of Christ) but is elaborately decorated to represent Christ's victory over death. This type of cross is called Ծաղկեալ Խաչ (Tsaghkyal Khach) in Armenian and Crux Gemmata in Latin, and it was the first widespread form of the cross in Christianity. The Armenian crosses are of this style, representing the exalted cross as a living vine, as a mystery of Salvation and eternal Life.
