A PRAYER FOR ELECTION DAY

Our Loving Lord and Savior,

We come to you now, as we stand before a time of transition in our national leadership—and a time of decision for each of us, and for our fellow citizens of America.

With humble hearts, we seek your guidance as we prepare to participate in the noble election process.  Grant us wisdom to deepen our understanding of the issues facing our locality, state, and country.  Inspire our conviction to uphold the consequential duty of civic participation, and to cast our votes with discernment and responsibility.  Awaken our spirits to your Holy Word as we deliberate on the choices before us.

In this day of widespread uncertainty around the world—of injustice, unrest, and open conflict—we pray that the leaders whom we lift up to serve will “act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God” (Micah 6:8).  May they always honor the rights and dignity of every individual; champion the cause of peace; and in every decision of office, seek and attend to your will.

We pray that the election process will proceed with integrity, peace, and safety for all voters and candidates; and that the outcome emerging from such a process will be respected by all, and lead our country forward to greater unity and common prosperity.

Above all, Lord, even amidst these important concerns of worldly leadership, we are mindful that you alone are our true Authority: our risen redeemer and eternal King—Jesus Christ, the Son of God, to whom, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, we give all glory and praise, now and always, and unto the ages of ages.  Amen.
