A Sunday School class went on a special trip to a grand cathedral. As they walked into that magnificent sanctuary, the children’s eyes were drawn to the towering stained glass windows. Each window told the story of saints—men and women who walked with God, and who lived lives of faith, sacrifice, and courage.
The teacher turned to the class and asked, “Children, do you know who the saints are?” There was silence as those young minds pondered the question. Then, a little girl, staring at the radiant windows, spoke up. “I know… the saints are the ones who let the light shine through.”
The purity of her answer reveals the essence of what it means to be a saint. Sainthood is not a distant state reserved for the rare and the celebrated. It’s a life where God’s love shines through us. It begins when we open our hearts, surrender our fears, and allow His light to transform us.
As we celebrate this Feast of All Saints, honoring the known and the unknown, the ancient and the new, we’re reminded that holiness isn’t confined to stained glass or golden icons. The lives of the saints show us what it means to live with transparency, allowing His light to touch every part of our lives. They teach us that sainthood is an invitation for each of us to let God’s grace cleanse the windows of our hearts so His love and mercy might shine through us.
Sainthood is also about the “everyday saints” around us—the ones we might not notice, but whose goodness quietly impacts our lives. Think of the selfless parent, the dedicated teacher, the compassionate friend who stands by us in times of trial. They reflect Christ’s light just as brightly as any well-known saint.
Friends, on this Feast of All Saints, we are each invited to let His light shine through us. To be saints in the everyday moments of life—in acts of mercy, in words of encouragement, in quiet sacrifices made out of love. Let’s embrace this calling. Because when we let His light shine, we don’t just illuminate our lives—we become a light to the world. And that, my friends, is the true legacy of a saint.
