Blessed, Not Lucky

Very often, we attribute our successes and good fortunes to mere luck. We say, "I was just lucky!" or "Wow, that was a lucky break!" But the scripture teaches us that our successes are not accidents of fate because “every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change (James1:17)

There’s no such thing as luck when you’re walking in God’s light. The blessings in our lives aren’t accidents. They’re not the result of random chance. They are intentional, perfect gifts from your Heavenly Father.

The Apostle James reminds us of some of these priceless gifts in the very first chapter of his letter. He speaks of wisdom, freely given to those who ask (1:5). He talks about the crown of life, a reward for those who persevere through trials (1:12). And most importantly, he points to the Word of Truth, the Gospel, which is the ultimate expression of God’s love for us (1:18). These are blessings that no amount of luck or fortune could ever compare to.

And let’s not overlook the simple joys. When you step outside and feel the warmth of the sun on your face, hear the melody of birdsong, or see the vibrant colors of fall leaves, you’re witnessing God’s artistry. Every breath you take, every beat of your heart, is evidence of His goodness and provision.

Friends, start seeing your life through the lens of God's blessings. When you wake up each morning, instead of hoping for good luck, recognize the blessings. Look around and see God’s fingerprints all over your life. Acknowledge that good health, that opportunity to go to work, and the family and friends you have are God's hands over your life.

So, with a heart full of joy and love, let’s say we are blessed, not lucky or fortunate. Let’s change our language and our mindset. Because when you recognize your blessings, something powerful happens. Gratitude fills your heart. Faith strengthens your soul. And you start to live with a new confidence, knowing that the same God who blessed you yesterday will continue to bless you today and tomorrow.
