Engraved in His Hands

When I was younger, before the days of smartphones, I’d write important things on the palm of my hand—a phone number, a task I couldn’t forget. It was my way of keeping close the things that were truly important, right where I could see them all day long. Isn’t it amazing that God does the same for us? In the Scriptures, God says, “See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands” (Isaiah 49:16).

Think about that for a moment. The Creator of the universe—the One who made the stars, the mountains, the oceans—says that your name is written on His hands. You’re not forgotten. You’re not overlooked. You’re not just another face in the crowd. You are loved, cherished, and held in the hands of Almighty God.

In the original text, the word for “inscribed” goes even deeper—it means “engraved,” a permanent mark. This isn’t something that washes away or fades over time. It’s not scribbled like a fleeting thought but engraved, permanent, eternal. It’s God’s unchanging promise: I will never forget you. I will never leave you.

When life feels overwhelming, when you’re faced with challenges that seem too great to bear, and you’re wondering, “Does God even see me?” Remember this truth: not only does God see you, but every time He looks at His hands, He sees your name. He sees your struggles, your prayers, your tears. You are never out of His sight, never out of His care. God is holding you in His hands. Your name is there, engraved forever.

And let’s not forget the most powerful image of God’s hands—the hands of Jesus Christ stretched out on the cross. Those hands bear the ultimate proof of His love for you. The nail marks in His hands are a testament that you are worth everything to Him.

So, every time fear tries to creep in, when doubt whispers that you’re on your own, lift your eyes to heaven and remind yourself: My name is written on His hands. You are not just a name on a list; you are precious, valued, and deeply loved. Let this promise fill you with strength and peace. The God who holds the whole world is holding you, too.
