Finding Hope Amid the Flames

Our hearts are heavy as we watch the flames spread across the Greater Los Angeles area. Many of you are living through this nightmare - watching your homes, your communities, and even your dreams face the threat of destruction. Friends, we are praying for you. We’re praying for God’s protection over you, your families, and the brave firefighters working tirelessly to save lives and property.

I know it’s hard to see hope when the sky is filled with smoke and the fire seems unrelenting. But I want to remind you today of a powerful truth: even in the midst of the fire, God is still with you. Our God is a God of restoration, a God who turns mourning into joy, despair into praise, and ashes into beauty.

The flames may rage, but they cannot destroy the promises of God. Isaiah 43:2 says, “When you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” That doesn’t mean the fire isn’t real—it is. The challenges you’re facing are real. The fear and uncertainty are real. But God’s Word is just as real, and His promise is that this fire will not consume you.

Just a few days ago, during our Armenian Christmas Eve—Jragalooyts—we read the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These three young men were thrown into a fiery furnace, but they didn’t burn. Why? Because there was a fourth man in the fire. That was Jesus with them, protecting them, keeping them safe. I want you to know that the same God who walked through the fire with them is walking through this fire with you.

When the fire is still burning, it’s hard to see beyond the smoke. But this fire is not the end of the story. God is a God of restoration. Just like the earth bursts back to life after a wildfire, God is preparing new growth and blessings for you. He promises, “I will restore to you the years that the locusts have eaten” (Joel 2:25).

What you’ve lost, God can restore. What the fire consumed, God can replace with something greater. It might not happen overnight, but I believe with all my heart that He is working behind the scenes, even in this moment, to bring beauty from the ashes.
