"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God." (Isaiah 43:1-3)
Some people mistakenly think that if they believe in God and become Christians, they will not experience any difficulties or struggles in this life. Alas, all things on earth have been affected by sin. This includes the animal kingdom, plant life, our social and economic life, our bodies, and our relationships.
For this reason, the difficulties and struggles in this life never cease. We find ourselves in persistent trials. While we may pray, "Lord, let Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven," we continue to dictate our wills instead. However, for those who have placed their trust in God and aim to do His will, God says, "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God." (Isaiah 43:1-3)
In today's reading, God reminds us that we are of high worth to Him. He created us, and He saved us. He promises He will always be with us through all trials and difficulties. (John 16:33) God does not promise that when we pass through the rivers of difficulties that, we will escape the waters. Some struggles, naturally, will cause us grief and pain. We must go through the waters, but God promises that we will not sink, nor will it overwhelm us. When we pass through the test of fire, often we might experience the burning pain, but God promises that the flames will not consume us. By God's protection and His help, we will endure and emerge from the waters of the river and the fire of the furnace to live eternally before Him.
Yes, you can trust God because His promises never fail.
