Let Your Light Shine

In Matthew 5:16, our Lord Jesus Christ tells us that there is a light within each of us—a light placed there by our Heavenly Father, meant to shine brightly in this world. He says, "Let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven."

It’s not enough to just have the light. You’ve got to let it shine. That means our thoughts, our words, and our actions should all radiate the divine light that God has placed within us. God didn’t place that light inside of you so that it could be hidden or covered up by doubt, fear, or the busyness of life. He placed it there so that it would shine brightly, so others would see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

When Jesus tells us to let our light shine, He’s not just talking about doing good deeds for the sake of doing them. No, He’s talking about living a life so full of God’s love, so full of His grace and mercy, that others can’t help but see something different in us. They see that we’re not walking in the shadows but we’re standing tall in the light.

And when we let our light shine, it’s not just about us—it’s about what God is doing through us. It’s about giving glory to God. It’s about people seeing that light and saying, “There’s something different about them. There’s something powerful in the way they live, the way they love, the way they speak.” And that something is the presence of God in our lives.

So don’t hide that light. Don’t let the opinions of others, the pressures of this world, or the lies of the enemy cause you to dim the light God has placed inside you. Instead, let it shine! Let it shine in your workplace, in your community, in your family. Let it shine, let it glow, and let it transform not just your life but the lives of everyone around you.
