Stepping into the New Year

Today is the last day of the year. Standing on the threshold of a new beginning, we are naturally filled with mixed emotions. There’s the excitement of new opportunities, but let’s admit it, there’s also a whisper of fear. Fear of the unknown. Fear of what might happen.

The fear of uncertainty is a profoundly human experience. It's the quiet voice that asks, "What's going to happen next?" It's the anxiety that keeps us awake with questions: What if the economy takes a turn for the worse? What if my health fails? What if I’m not enough to face what’s ahead?

Fear is a natural human response to different situations that we are put in, but we can choose how we respond to our fear. We can choose to let our fear control us and run our lives. Or we can choose to face our fears and trust that God will help us and save us from our fear.

The Psalmist declared in Psalm 34:4, “I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” Notice what the Psalmist did—he didn’t ignore his fears. He didn’t pretend they didn’t exist. He sought the Lord. He brought his fears to the One who has the power to calm every storm and light up the darkest nights.

Here’s the truth: Fear is a feeling, but faith is a choice. Fear says, “What if everything goes wrong?” Faith says, “What if God does something amazing?” Fear says, “You’re not enough.” Faith says, “God is more than enough.” Fear focuses on the obstacles. Faith focuses on the possibilities.

As we step into this new year, let’s respond to fear with faith. Instead of fearing the unknown, let’s trust the One who knows everything. Instead of shrinking back, let’s take bold steps forward. Instead of letting fear hold us captive, let’s let faith set us free.

Let’s choose to believe that God’s plans for us are good, that His promises are true, and that His presence is with us every step of the way.
