We often hear the phrase, "It's falling apart,” and it’s not just about things breaking down. It’s a reflection of how life can unravel. People say, "My marriage, my health, or my finances are falling apart.” We’ve all been there. Maybe you’ve even said it yourself: “My life is falling apart.” It feels like everything is crumbling, and you don’t know where to turn. If that’s how you feel today, Psalm 46 is written just for you.
The psalmist says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” God isn’t some distant figure, passively watching from the sidelines. He’s right there with you, offering a safe place when life’s storms hit. In ancient times, warriors ran to fortified towers to find refuge and protection. Today, God is saying, “Run to Me, and you’ll be safe. I am your strong tower!”
But God isn’t just our refuge—He’s also our strength. When you feel weak, God doesn’t want you to retreat from life’s challenges. He invites you to run to Him for strength to face them. You don’t need to escape; you need to stand firm—not in your own strength, but His! When you run to God, you anchor yourself in His power, and His strength never runs out.
Here’s the best part: He is our very present help. Not distant help. Not help that’s on the way. He is right-now help. When you’re facing what seems like an impossible situation, when you’re backed into a corner with no way out—God steps in. He parts the waters. He makes a way when there seems to be no way.
“Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.” (Psalm 46:2-3). The imagery here paints a picture of total chaos. Even in such upheaval, when everything around us is shaking—our health, relationships, finances—we can stand firm, knowing God is unshakable.
So, let us hold fast to this truth: When everything around us feels unstable, we stand on the solid ground of God’s promises. We don’t have to be afraid of what’s happening around us because our foundation is unshakable. The world may change, but God remains the same—yesterday, today, and forever.
