You want to go for a nice, peaceful walk, but as soon as you step out the door, it starts raining. You look outside, see those gray clouds, feel the drizzle on your face, and say, “Nope, not today. I’m staying in.” But what if you need to buy groceries? What if you have to feed your family? You don’t just sit back and wait for the rain to stop. You grab your raincoat and your umbrella, and you step out.
And what if it’s not just rain but freezing cold, minus 5 degrees, wind howling, snow coming down? You might say, “No way. I’ll wait until it warms up.” But if you get a call that a loved one needs you, if there's an emergency, you won’t let the cold stop you. You’ll bundle up in every warm piece of clothing you can find, and you’ll go.
Friends, it’s not the obstacles that stop us, but the strength of our resolve, of our intention. It’s the size of our “why.” If your goals are weak, if your purpose is unclear, it doesn’t take much, a little opposition, a little rain, and you’ll stay home. But when your why is strong enough, when you know your calling, when you’ve got a fire in your heart to fulfill God’s plan for your life, you’ll push through rain, snow, and storms to get where you need to go.
The apostle Paul knew this kind of determination. In Acts 20:24, he said, “I do not count my life of any value to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the good news of God’s grace.” Paul was shipwrecked, beaten, imprisoned, and left for dead. But he didn’t quit. Why? Because his “why” was strong. His purpose, to share the Gospel, was bigger than any problem.
When problems come, and they will, don’t focus on the obstacles. Focus on the purpose. Because when your why is strong enough, when there’s a fire burning inside you, no storm can stop you. Don’t let the rain talk you out of your destiny. Put on your spiritual raincoat - your faith, your prayers, your perseverance, and go after what God promised.
True. Yet for the aged, God will bless your intention and has seen the strength of your journey.
